Salt
Have you ever pondered the alchemy of salt,
How it mingles with both the ocean’s infinite sigh
And the fleeting lamentations of our weeping eyes
A strange communion indeed– elemental, internal,
Though it remains yet undiscovered
There must be a tie.
Because ironic it is that both ocean and tear,
Drown in the same salt that has haunted the depths of the seas for hundreds of years,
It lies awake- present in every surge, every retreat of the azure,
And dots the cheeks of the innocent child
Who remains unconscious of the horrors of the future.
So I wonder- did this alliance always exist, or was it made to be-
A parallel between the sheer depth of the ocean and human emotion,
Or perhaps both currents simply desire to be free
And inevitably, just as the waves recede from the sand,
The trickling stream of brine is always brushed off
Flicked away by the back of her hand.
So this salt.. could it be true?
It lies still in the tears we cry and plagues deep waters blue,
Maybe it was god himself who created this bond,
Because why is it that there is no salt in shallow lakes, rivers or ponds?
It dwells in the mystic tides of the vast seas and the ocean,
I like to believe that it is because; much like the water-
We have not yet found the true bottom of human emotion.
