A Mirage

They’ve lived in Toronto for as long as they can remember,

Yet ponder what it would be like to migrate to a new horizon with more warmth and play,

While my friends in London wonder..

When the skies will shine blue instead of dark, frosty grey.

She works in the city, a regular white- collar girl,

She has no time to wipe her weary eyes, so sits patiently and watches her entire future unfurl.

She looks upon the dreamers, she romanticises the chase,

But I know a few dreamers on the rubble of New York,

All wishing they got paid.

He stares into the mirror, picking himself apart,

Wondering what he’s doing wrong, or if he’s just unlucky in love.

While she sits halfway across the world,

Silently wishing for her freedom, reminiscing the time when she didn’t have to answer to anyone.

We end up seeing the beauty, the joy and the bliss,

That others possess, and our hearts do miss,

The grass that seems to grow, lush and so green,

On the other side of life, where darker shadows are unseen.

The whispers spread, a subtle, sly deceit,

That happiness lies elsewhere, waiting to be seized.

We chase the mirage, a wistful, wandering heart

But oh, dear soul, beware the siren's call,

For in the pursuit of when we think we'll have all,

We may lose sight of what we already have, what everyone else gazes at from afar.
